Basic Life Support and Automatic External Defibrillator (BLS + AED)
This course would be an excellent introduction for young people and members of the wider community who would like to know how to operate AED’s and learn basic life support. We would recommend that everyone in society learns these skills at a minimum.

Learning Outcomes: –
Understand the role and responsibility of a First Aider.
- Identify the role and responsibilities of a first aider.
- Describe how to minimise the risk of infection to self and others.
- Identify the need for establishing consent to provide First Aid.
- Describe how to complete an accident report form.
- Identify the First Aid equipment that should be available in a workplace.
- Describe the safe use of First Aid equipment.
Be able to assess an incident.
- Describe how to conduct a scene survey.
- Identify when and how to call for help.
Be able to manage a casualty who is unresponsive and NOT breathing normally.
- Demonstrate how to conduct a primary survey of a casualty.
- Demonstrate how to administer Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) using a manikin.
- Demonstrate the action you would take if an unresponsive casualty started to vomit.
- Identify when to stop Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Operating the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).
- Demonstrate the use of an AED using a Trainer device.
